Real estate in Dubai for students
Dubai has been named the best city in the Middle East for student life, ranking 51st in the QS Best Student Cities Ranking 2023. London has held the global leadership position during the fourth year in a row.
The top five also included Seoul, Munich, Zurich and Melbourne. In general, the cost of student life has risen worldwide. “There is concern that cities in general are becoming less accessible to students,” said Ben Souter, senior vice president of QS.
The QS Quacquarelli Symonds ranking includes 110 cities around the world with a population of over 250,000 people. The results of the study are based on the opinions of 98,426 students.
As previously reported, in the United Arab Emirates, which traditionally sent its citizens to study at universities in North America, Europe and Australia, the number of foreign students has increased markedly in recent years.
- There are currently 34 international higher education institutions in Dubai offering over 600 educational programs.
- Every fourth student, or a total of 28% of the total, arrives in the UAE from abroad.
- Dubai International Higher Education Institutions reported an annual growth of 3.6% in enrollment, with more than 29,000 students enrolled in university programs. As noted in the Knowledge and Human Capital Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a leading international center of education.
The growth in the number of international students and educational institutions speaks to the emirate’s ability to provide high-quality education. In January 2021, the UAE government announced that it would issue long-term residence visas to foreign students studying in the country.
In addition, foreign students are allowed to bring their relatives with them, thanks to which they will be able to “take root” in the UAE and contribute to the development and further prosperity of the state. Thanks to the presence of branches of the world’s leading universities, the country has become a favorite place among international students studying undergraduate and graduate programs.
The UAE is home to 60 world-renowned university campuses that nurture future generations of creators, entrepreneurs and professionals to drive the country’s economic growth, innovation and competitive industries.
Dubai for retired expats
The United Arab Emirates was named the best country for expats to retire in, according to a study by the Our Life Plan portal. Along with the UAE, the list of the most attractive countries for the elderly includes Israel and Australia.
The ranking includes countries with the highest levels of happiness, and factors such as the cost of living, average monthly salary, average annual temperature and the number of sunny days per year were taken into account when compiling it.
As a result, the Emirates took the first place in the list. This became possible due to a comfortable average annual temperature (27 degrees), the presence of a large number of sunny days, a high living wage and salaries. The top five included two more countries in the Persian Gulf region – Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
In November 2021, the government of the United Arab Emirates updated the rules for issuing long-term residence visas to foreigners over the age of 55. According to the decision of the UAE Cabinet, pensioners can apply for a five-year residence permit if they meet a number of conditions:
- the presence of real estate (property) worth at least AED 1 million (USD 273,000),
- a deposit in a bank account for a similar amount or active income in the amount of at least AED 180,000 per year.
If these requirements are met, foreigners can apply for a five-year resident visa.
It is worth recalling that the emirate’s government announced a visa program that will help residents of other countries over the age of 55 become residents of the city in early September 2020. The program was developed by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing of Dubai and the Directorate General of Residency and International Affairs in Dubai.
The aim of the program is to strengthen the emirate’s position as a preferred retirement destination. Expatriates who have worked in the city more than 10 years benefit from the first phase of the program. The government expects that the tourist flow to the emirate will grow due to the fact that elderly relatives will be often visited by children and family members, as well as friends.
